INTRODUCTORY

The Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny is a corporation of the State of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Pittsburgh, Pa. The Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny is controlled by The Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad Company and The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company, each of which owns 50 per cent of its capital stock. The records reviewed do not indicate that it controls any carrier corporation. The property of this company has been operated by its own organization during its entire life.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny was incorporated October 26, 1881, for the purpose of acquiring and consolidating the property, rights, and franchises of the Chartiers and Mansfield Valley Rail Way Company and the McLaughlin's and Saw Mill Run Rail Way Company, and completing and operating the projected railroads of those companies. Pursuant to the above purpose, the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny acquired at its organization the property, rights, and franchises of the two corporations named. DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The mileage owned by the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny, amounting to 19.634 miles, was acquired by construction. The two predecessor corporations acquired certain right-of-way lands, but did not construct any road or other common carrier property. The property constructed by the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny and the years when the various portions of the line were constructed are indicated in the following table:

In addition, the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny owns a projected and partly constructed road between Van Emman and Eighty-four, Pa., 8.36 miles. The construction of this extension was commenced in 1913.

TRAFFIC CONNECTIONS

The Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny has connections for interchange of traffic with the railroad of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad Company at McKees Rocks, Pa., and with that of the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway Company at Duff Junction, Lewis Run Junction, and Woodville, Pa.

LEASED RAILWAY PROPERTY

The Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny uses on date of valuation facilities owned by other companies and other companies use facilities owned by this company to the extent indicated in the statement below. The description of the property, the period and terms of use and the rental accrued and charged or credited to income for the year ended on December 31, 1915, are as follows: [but the column headed "Rental" is blank, so I have omitted it]

      The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company--
      Tracks, 5.79 miles, between Duff Junction and Junction No. 1, Pa. These tracks together with those mentioned in the two succeeding paragraphs are operated as a double-track line. No rental accrued. The cost of maintaining the facilities are apportioned on basis of car and engine miles.
Right of way lands from Duff Junction to Lewis Run Junction, Pa., 3.21 miles, on which are located the tracks of The Ohio Connecting Railway Company. Annual rental 4 per cent on agreed valuation of $12,000.
Right-of-way lands from Lewis Run Junction to Junction No. 1, Pa., 2.58 miles, on which are located the tracks of The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company. Annual rental 4 per cent on agreed valuation of $16,895.
The Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad Company, freight terminal facilities at McKees Rocks, Pa. Annual rental 2.5 per cent on agreed valuation of $53,468. The company accrued $1,336.70 as joint facility rent income for the year ended Dec. 31, 1915. The proportions of this amount that are applicable to the above described facilities have not been ascertained

Tracks, 1.31 miles, from Junction No. 1 to Woodville, Pa., maintenance expenses apportioned on basis of car and engine miles; annual rental 3.5 per cent on an agreed valuation of $135,574.06
The Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad Company--
Tracks, 0.81 mile, from North McKees Rocks, Pa., to the connection with the road at upper end of Neville Island. Maintenance expenses apportioned on basis of car and engine miles. Annual rental 3.5 per cent on agreed valuation of $145,500
Passenger station facilities at McKees Rocks, Pa. The terms of use have not been ascertained. The company accrued $9,907.59 as joint facility rents for the year ended on Dec. 31, 1915. The proportions of this amount that are applicable to the above-described facilities have not been ascertained.

In addition, the Pittsburgh, Chartiers & Youghiogheny uses various engine facilities of The Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad Company and The Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad Company. The period and terms of use of such facilities have not been ascertained.
